Snakeskin Bone Vessel III

1999
2 1/8 X 2 X 2 inches
Animal Bones, Shed Snake Skin
Acrylic Matt Medium
$495.00

This piece was shaped by cutting long strips of shed (Boa Constrictor) snake skin, dipping each strip in a diluted glue solution and twisting each into a long textural fiber. It was then carefully hung to dry. Once dry, the fibers were knotless netted onto very small animal rib bones. The very first vessel was eaten by my dog. The second was in my M.A. Show, then purchased by my Fiber Arts Professor at N.I.U..

Snakeskin Bone Vessel III was part of a show called Think Small curated by Robert Sill through the Illinois State Museum. The Think Small show started in Chicago in September 2004 through January of 2005. It then moved to their Springfield gallery from March to July 2005. Lastly it moved to Lockport from September 2005 through January of 2006. A picture of Snakeskin Bone Vessel is published in a very nice exhibition catalog from the Think Small exhibition. The catalog is included with the purchase of Snakeskin Bone Vessel.
